With Texas and Cincinnati separated by just three slots on Derby News Network’s monthly power rankings, many were expecting a tight game, but the Texecutioners romped home with a final score of 149 to 61.

The first half showed explosive defense on both teams’ part with Cincinnati dominating the front of the pack while the Texecutioners executed slow and strategic pack control. The first ten minutes of the period had the top-ranked teams in close competition until the 17 minute mark when Texas pulled away, 33-12. Texas widened the gap by the end of the first period with a 22-point lead on Cinci at the half, bringing the score to 58-36.

The Texecutioners are notorious for their second-half performances. Adapting quickly to Cincinnati’s defensive strategy, the Texecutioners cinched another 91 points over the period thanks to Olivia Shootin’ John, Bloody Mary and returning Texecutioner Vicious Van GoGo. Cincinnati’s Sk8r-Kinney was elected MVP while Olivia Shootin’ John received Derbylove’s Girl of the Game award.

In the second bout of the night, skaters from all four Texas Rollergirls’ home teams played in a mash-up game, with the preppy Heathers taking on the punk-rock Ramonas. The Heathers dominated the first half of this mini-bout, but the Ramonas stormed back in the second half, taking the win with a final score of 72 to 50.”
