Getting to know you…

Devil Grrl #66
Honky Tonk Heartbreakers

25 20 Fun Facts About DG:

1. I discovered rollerderby while on the toilet at a college reunion at Club DeVille in 2001. There was a poster for the very first tryouts at Skateworld. I went. I showed up tipsy. I made it.
2. A lot has changed since then…
3. I have a room in my house that resembles/represents ”the black lodge” from the best TV show ever known to man: Twin Peaks.
4. I have more cats than are featured with the ”Crazy Cat Lady” Action Figure (made by Accoutrements – awesome toy distributor).
5. The only Texas Rollergirls home team I have not played in a game with is The Hustlers.
6. By 1989 I could play every favorite 80’s TV theme on the piano by memory, and often not even seeing the sheet music including: Cheers, Punky Brewster, St. Elsewhere, Hill St. Blues, and so many more. I should have never given up the piano..If anyone wants to offer free re-ramp-up lessons to a child piano prodigy… :)
7. I had the highest batting average in UIL fast-pitch softball in Texas at one point in 1992. Also, my high school was one of the first UIL-recognized schools for women’s fast pitch. That would be in Denton, Texas at Denton High School. Denton…The Home of Happiness.
8. I know every single line to these movies but I won’t ruin it for you if we’re watching it together…I don’t like ”quote-a-longs” : Clue, UHF, Mommie Dearest, Nightmare Before Christmas, Star Wars, and prolly 25 others.
9. I am painfully left-handed, but I am ambidextrous in racket/bat sports…if I were to play them. I use scissors with my right hand exclusively because they never made a good pair of left-handed ones. Being a graphic designer on the computer is interesting in this regard for mousing has forced me to be right-handed. I never tried to switch.
10. I have parakeets now, too. Not an awesome combination with cats. They have their own room.
11. I consider myself an Austinite, now that I’ve lived here for 15 years.
12. I have held many ”Totally Austin” jobs including at the following places: Vulcan Video, Waterloo Records, a campus bookstore, a UT library, a gay video store, a video game company, and a local news station, to name a few.
13. None of you have, or will ever see my natural hair color. I have now, unfortunately, two natural hair colors.
14. It is safe to say that if money were no object, that I would move without consulting whatsoever, directly to Hawaii to a semi-remote area with little to do except BE IN HAWAII. I would love to be a professional fishing guide and crafter there.
15. I believe I will try to get back into fast-pitch softball or Karate after I retire from Rollerderby.
16. I get to see Dolly Parton in October,..and you don’t.
17. I might be the only Heartbreaker with Rodeo experience.
18. I love coaching rollerderby, basketball, and softball. I have experience in all.
19. I think I should have been a marine biologist or large marine mammal vet. ..shucks.
20. My idea of a perfect evening, date, or whatever–is slowing down, eating a home-cooked meal, and watching a movie. That time is scant these days because I own a business, have another day job, and play rollerderby with all of these crazy women, all the time!

    “The home of happiness”

    Oh DG, I <3 you.

Although as I type this, it occurs to me that "the home of happiness" might be a legit Denton, TX, slogan – and not just an arcane Rocky Horror 2 reference that only the most hardcore fans in Australia would be likely to recognise.

“The only Texas Rollergirls home team I have not played in a game with is The Hustlers.” This CAN be changed. 😉
