About the Teams

Texas Rollergirls’ Texecutioners (Austin, TX)

The Texecutioners are the Texas Rollergirls’ all-star squad, featuring the fastest jammers and hardest hitters from the league’s four home teams. They’ve competed in every WFTDA Championship, most recently picking up third place at the 2011 event, and are currently ranked fourth in the world by the independent Derby News Network (DNN). The team boasts a 7-1 W-L record in 2012.

Led by captains and veteran skaters Curvette and Bloody Mary, some of the most experienced skaters in flat track roller derby, making the Texecutioners a threat to be reckoned with. Recent transfer Polly Gone, from Gotham via Maine, has quickly established herself as a multidimensional go-to player, while Sarah ‘Killbox’ Hipel is emerging as a key jammer for the Texecutioners. On their home track, they’ll be looking to further their reputation as one of the most consistent — and most feared — teams in the game.

Bay Area Derby Girls’ All-Stars (San Francisco, CA)

Hailing from San Francisco and currently ranked 6th in the world by DNN, the Bay Area Derby Girls’ All-Stars are sure to add some glitz and glamor to the thrills and spills on the track. The team has a 3-1 record in 2012 and is known for its aggressive offensive play. Leading the Golden Girls, as they’re affectionately known, are team captains Brawllen Angel and Chantilly Mace.

Windy City Rollers’ All-Stars (Chicago, IL)

Chicago’s Windy City Rollers have never lost a game in their WFTDA North Central Region and, like the other teams competing this weekend, have competed in every WFTDA Championship tournament. They have a 4-2 W-L record in 2012 and are currently ranked 14th by DNN.

Movie buffs may recognize team captain Jackie Daniels from the 2009 film Whip It, in which she played herself — derby fans, however, are more likely to know her for her signature jamming style. There’s a great deal of international expertise on this team — Jackie’s teammates include Team USA member Varla Vendetta and Team Argentina member Sargentina.

Gotham Girls Roller Derby’s All-Stars (New York City, NY)

Riding a 20-match winning streak that dates back to November 2010, the Gotham Girls Roller Derby are truly at the top of the game — a fact recognized by their #1 DNN ranking and their status as the only team to ever win two WFTDA Championships (in 2008 and 2011).

The Gotham All-Stars boast some of the most recognizable skaters in modern derby in team captain Bonnie Thunders (2011 DNN ‘Best Jammer’ and Team USA member) and two-time DNN ‘Best Double Threat’ winner Suzy Hotrod.

The four teams will play round-robin on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, July 21, 3pm: Texas vs Windy City
Saturday, July 21, 6.30pm: Windy City vs Gotham
Saturday, July 21, 8.30pm: Texas vs Bay Area

Sunday, July 22, 12 noon: Gotham vs Bay Area
Sunday, July 22, 2.30pm: Bay Area vs Windy City
Sunday, July 22, 4.30pm: Texas vs Gotham

The tournament will also include a competitive game between the Texas Rollergirls Firing Squad and the Cen-Tex Sirens (July 21 at 4.45pm) and an exhibition match featuring the Austin Derby Brats (July 22 at 1.30pm).

About the Texas Rollergirls

The Texas Rollergirls is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit sports organization formed in 2003, and is widely recognized as the league that pioneered the modern incarnation of flat track roller derby. Born and bred in Austin, roller derby is the fastest-growing sport in the world, with more than 1,000 leagues and growing. Flat track roller derby is a genuine athletic competition with well-defined rules, divisions, tournaments and a governing body: the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). The Texas Rollergirls league is 100 percent skater-owned and managed. The league consists of four home teams: Hell Marys, Hotrod Honeys, Honky Tonk Heartbreakers and Hustlers, as well as the all-star Texecutioners travel team and the Texas B Team, the Firing Squad, both of which are comprised of members of the four home teams. The Texas Rollergirls league is dedicated to playing and promoting women’s flat track roller derby, a sport that began in Austin, Texas, and continues to take over the world. This is roller derby, and Texas is the reason.
