Welcome to Texas Rollergirls’ Bootcamp! Our bootcamp provides training for both beginner, intermediate and advanced levels (see descriptions of levels below). The Texas Rollergirls have been offering an intensive bootcamp annually for six years. Whether you are a seasoned derby skater or if you are new to derby, we have a bootcamp that is right for you.
Take a minute and read through the description of each camp before picking the one that fits. If you have any questions feel free to email: bootcamp@texasrollergirls.org
Did you love to skate as a kid and want to relearn the basics? Beginner camp is right for you; it is a refresher course for women who want to lace back into their skates and get a taste of what playing roller derby is all about. We’ll teach you the basics: how to T stop, turn-around-stop, snow plow, cross over, and basic form. The camp will also include workshops about the history and resurgence of roller derby. We will also teach beginner registrants basic game play and rules for flat track derby. Plus we will lead registrants through land drills to build core and leg strength. Beginner camp is a great way to find out if you’ve got what it takes to play roller derby. Skates, pads, helmets and mouth guards are required.
Do you already have a skate name, a uniform and a home team but just want to kick up your game play a notch or two? Intermediate camp is for the women that have been playing roller derby, know the game and the flat track rules, but they want to work on basic skating skills such as speed, footwork, pack control, lane coverage, frontal blocking, and assists. This camp will also offer street skating (weather permitting), skate maintenance workshops, land drills for you to build up your strength off the track as well as on it, and more.
Have you played interleague games for multiple seasons? Advanced camp is for women who want to see how the Texas Rollergirls train. This camp will be up to date with any new changes to the WFTDA rules and will teach strategies that are currently being seen on a national level. Things that will be covered include strategies for split pack scenarios, bridging, when to run the clock, plus advanced offensive and defensive tactics. This camp will also include land drills, and street skating (weather permitting), plus workshops about team building, bench management, and more.
All camps will include:
