About Rec-N-Rollerderby

Mission Statementrllogo

The Texas Rollergirls Recreational League, the Rec-n-Rollerderby™ is an athletic and social organization formed to give all women the opportunity to learn and play the sport of Flat Track Roller Derby. In the spirit of a recreational organization, it offers a fun, safe, and competitive athletic environment without the level of commitment or skill that are required of derby athletes at the national level.

The Texas Rollergirls Recreational League is open to any and all interested women 18 years and older who are not currently skating for the Texas Rollergirls or any other roller derby league. This may include retired Texas Rollergirls skaters, skaters who one day aspire to tryout for the Texas Rollergirls, and skaters who are just interested in learning and playing roller derby while having a great time doing it!

Our Beginnings

In 2006,a group of moms got together to form an all-mama amateur roller derby league, the Austin Roller Moms. The league started with nearly 20 skaters, many of whom continue to skate with the Rec-n-Rollerderby today.

In 2007, the Austin Roller Moms joined forces with the Texas Rollergirls to form the Rec-n-Rollerderby. The Austin Roller Moms was dissolved in order to become part of the Texas Rollergirls Recreational League and the scope of the league was broadened to include a wider variety of women. The 2007 season had approximately 30 skaters competing in the recreational league.

The 2008 season was a year of great growth for the Rec-n-Rollerderby. More than 60 skaters participated in the recreational league, including an ever-growing number of retired Texas Rollergirls.

The 2009 season also saw in increase in participation and additional sessions were added to accommodate the increased interest in Texas Rollergirls Recreational League.

The 2010 season is underway and with the huge influx of new skaters learning about roller derby by word of mouth and the movie "Whip It!", we now have over 80 women playing recreational roller derby and more people wanting to join every week!
