The Wrench was born one warm Sunday morning, deep in the heart of Southern Illinois, the product of her devout Catholic mother’s love for a greasy pit crew captain from the wrong side of town. She was an angelic little girl, happy to read her daily catechism and send up Novenas to the Blessed Holy Mother of God. A case of the chickenpox during her 5th grade year at Our Lady Of Divine Penance Catholic School For Girls kept The Wrench out of a highly coveted seat in Home Economics class, and she landed, upon returning to school, in the much maligned Auto Mechanics Shop, thus changing her life forever.

Almost seven years later, just two weeks before graduation, The Wrench wrapped her Rosary Beads around the rear view mirror of her Shop teacher’s Hemi Cuda and burned a mile long streak of rubber through town on her way to the Street Machine Nationals in Oklahoma City. But, by the time she’d pulled her foot off the accelerator, she was sitting in the parking lot of the Horseshoe Lounge in Austin, Texas. Once inside, she made fast friends with kindred spirit and skater extraordinare Holli Graffic, who offered to drive the two on a wild-eyed, booze-fueled joy ride around the flat track out at the old abandoned Long Horn Speedway. Too many Lone Star tallboys and one thermos of Holli’s famous Electric Koolaid later, the bleary pair sat in the steaming wreckage of the Wrench’s Barracuda….. “Don’t worry,” Holli told the sobbing young Wrench, “I’ll get you a whole new set of wheels!”
