What is your most impressive derby injury? I don’t know how impressive a broken ankle is, but it is surely unforgettable. May 12, 2011 practice was going great, but ended in the ER. I remember crawling into Ryder Down’s lap as my ankle was MacGyvered by Punk Rock Phil’s and his agility latter. While in the ER the nurse asked if my team mates knew they were in a hospital waiting room, yes they did and no they didn’t care. I understood why she asked that when I was released I found Local 666 and the majority of my team sipping on refreshments and eating a buffet of Chickfila in the waiting room. The next few months weren’t easy, but I will always have the scars to remind me what an amazing and supportive team and league I skate for.
Drink of choice at a bar? Vodka tonic 2 limes…but at home I love trashy wine!
Other sports you have played? I was powerlifter in high school, a college cheerleader at University of Houston, a breakdancer for the Houston Rockets and a magician’s assistant…. is being a magician’s assistant a sport?
Favorite food? Bacon. I freaking love bacon. Bacon is my meat candy…mmm bacon.
Who inspires you? My derby inspiration is a set of two ladies that took a chance on me when I couldn’t even stand on skates. Nawty Dread Knocks and Death By Chocolate are the two people that I call after practices and the two people that I hope to impress on game day. I want to be as fast and as versatile as DBC and I want to have high expectations of myself and hard hits like like Nawty. I want them to be proud of me. Thinking about them makes me want to go put my skates on. That’s inspiration.
What are you most thankful for in your life? My Family, I’m very lucky to have such a great supportive family and am looking forward to growing our little family when this derby adventure comes to a close.
How/why did you pick your derby name? Josh Barnett was a UFC fighter that I watched often. He would jump on the cage at the end of each fight and slice his throat with his thumb. I didn’t care what my name was I just wanted to do that. When I realized his name was “The Babyfaced Assassin,” I thought it was perfect.
How has roller derby impacted your life? Roller Derby is my life.
What’s the hardest part of being a rollergirl? The evolution. Everything is always changing and there is always a new challenge.
You play several positions, which one is your favorite & why? My goal is to be a triple threat that can go in at any given time. Whenever and wherever my team needs me, I want to be able to go in and do work.
Which one of your tattoos is your favorite – what is it and why? I have a crappy looking shooting star on my hip. My mom took me when I was 16. We were going through some hard times and I convinced her it was a great bonding experience.
Most memorable experience you’ve had with a fan: I was waiting tables at Porch Swing Pub in Houston and a group I was waiting on said I reminded them of THE BABYFACE ASSASSIN that played derby in Houston. I, of course, I let them go on for a while about how much they loved that derby girl before telling them it was me.
