Skater Name: Headless Highness (but most people just call me Highney)
Skater Number: 319
Played derby since: 2009
Year started with TXRG: 2012

What is your pre-game ritual? I listen to music and put on my makeup. I’ve never played a game without red lipstick. It’s pretty unforgiving and takes some concentration and finesse to put on, which helps me to settle down and focus.
What skates do you wear? Riedell 495 boots with Reactor plates
What’s your favorite wheel brand? I’ve tried a lot of brands, but always seem to gravitate back to Atom.
The best piece of derby advice you’d like to give someone new… Have fun. Derby is hard physically, mentally, and at times even emotionally; it will not be a good time all the time. As you move through your career, it can become easy to take it too seriously and to let frustration and stress get to you. You have to remind yourself to have fun doing this. If you’re not having fun, it’s not worth it. (I also play better when I’m having a good time!)
What is the best derby bout you’ve ever watched? Why? Texas vs. Gotham at 2013 WFTDA champs – the true definition of tooth and nail. People say “leave it all out on the track!” – THAT was leaving it all out on the track. It was an exciting game but exhausting to watch at the same time.
