What’s your most embarrassing derby moment?
Too many to count and there’s no end in sight.
Who inspires you?
Any woman who’s made the decision to lace up a pair skates and put herself out there inspires me. I am in awe of the woman who gets on the track with the odds stacked against her facing opponents who have many more years of experience than she. It may go her way – it may not, but that’s irrelevant. She just wants to play the game.
What are you most thankful for in your life?
I’m incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by the love and support of my family. I’m thankful for growing up in an environment where following your heart and taking risks has always been encouraged. I was taught that if you really want something – you can achieve it.
How/why did you pick your derby name?
Playing roller derby has been one of the most difficult sports I’ve played, both mentally and physically. I didn’t always fit in and it took a while to find my place. I wanted an interesting derby name, but in the end realized that if I was going to play this sport to the best of my ability – I needed to be me. I am what I am and using my real name helps me keep it all in perspective.
How has roller derby impacted your life?
My clothes fit differently, but I haven’t lost any weight. What is up with that?
Would you like to brag about your skates?
A good craftswoman can’t blame her tools. However, I love my boots (Riedell 1065’s). I also have a habit of collecting wheels like shoes. I must have a set for every occasion, but find that I always end up wearing the same old ones.
