Who is your favorite band/musician/group?
The Rolling Stones
What is your most impressive derby injury?
I’ve only had two injuries and impressive isn’t the right word for them. I suffered a Grade III concussion and that was the most scary injury that I’ve ever had. Losing the mind is a frightening thing. I just recently broke my elbow and had to have surgery to repair it and that was my most painful injury.
Other sports you have played?
I played Division I collegiate softball at The University of Virginia. I also still play on a co-ed soccer team with my partner and one of my Hustler teammates.
How did you get into derby?
I have always loved to roller skate and have followed the resurgence of derby in Austin from the beginning. A friend and I were bored with our workout routines and she’d seen an ad for a recreational roller derby league in Austin. We went to the meeting and were hooked. We played in the recreational league for a few months and then decided to try out for the premiere league. We were drafted to the same team and this is our third season playing together.
What are you most thankful for in your life?
I am most thankful for my family and friends. They are always so supportive of me no matter what crazy idea I dream up!
How/why did you pick your derby name?
I farmed it out to my family and friends. I knew I wanted a play on my real name and my friend Spencer Caston came up with the winner.
How has roller derby impacted your life?
Roller derby has given me an amazing outlet for stress, life long friends, an amazing business to work in and a great new sport to promote.
What’s the hardest part of being a rollergirl?
The time commitment is the hardest part. DIY, volunteer-run businesses can suck you in. It’s just nice that I love it so much.
First thing you do after a derby bout:
Wipe off the stank of my pads.
