How did you get into derby?
I was living in NYC at the time when an article on the Gotham Girls came out in Bust magazine. I knew the second I started reading that the world of modern flat track derby was going to have a huge impact on my life and couldn’t wait to get started. I would have joined right away with Gotham, but ended up making plans to move south for a little while. I was around for the inception of the Nashville Rollergirls in February 2006 and stayed on to skate three awesome seasons with them.

Favorite roller derby player?
It’s a tie between Joy Collision and Dolly Rocket of Charm City. They’re like two sides of a super-hero-themed derby coin. Very different styles, but they compliment each other beautifully on the track.

What are you most thankful for in your life?
My incredibly supportive family who have never asked me to give up my derby dreams. :) That, among many other things.

How did you pick your derby name?
I was initially drawn to derby as a really dynamic counter culture with all of this explosive energy and even political implication. Kind of like the most iconographic of all incendiary weapons: the Molotov cocktail.

How has roller derby impacted your life?
I was told there would be no essay questions on this exam.

What’s the hardest part of being a rollergirl?
Explaining to non-derby friends and family why you’ll have to miss this graduation or that wedding…”but THIS one is a reeeally important game.”

You play several positions, which one is your favorite & why?
The adrenaline rush of jamming is pretty hard to beat.

Favorite fan experience?
The UK roller derby players and fans had some of the most amazing energy I’ve experienced in the derby world. The Hustlers had the incredible honor of skating a bout against London on a Saturday night, then training skaters from all over Europe the next morning. They had all just seen the bout and were so impassioned and on fire to learn and skate and just be around one another.
