Skater name: Runaway Tre
Skater number: 89
Years played: 2009-2011 Rec, 2012-present as a Heartbreaker!
Occupation: Motorcycle Instructor by day, 911 Calltaker/Dispatcher by night– Rollergirl everywhere in between!
What is your most impressive derby injury? I shattered both sides of my right ankle while trying to take out MeShove (bad idea), and a shard of my tibia poked out of my skin. Eight months, four plates and ten screws later I was drafted to the Heartbreakers!
What’s your most embarrassing derby moment? Mistakenly taking out one of my own team’s blockers, apparently hard enough to break her ankle.
How did you pick your derby name? I was dubbed by a friend– Fact is, I actually was a runaway. Long story!
What’s the hardest part of being a rollergirl? While the potential for injury is always present, there are risks involved in everything we choose to do in life, so I choose to not let that hold me back.
First thing you do after a derby bout: Hydrate! Wash the sweat off of all my fresh abrasions.
Would you like to brag about your skates? Hand-me-down’s from Vargas Grrl — They are worn tough and I am proud of ’em!
Most memorable experience you’ve had with a fan: During one of our Rec scrimmages a tiny toddler escaped the safety of his mother’s grasp and ran right in front of me while I was skating! I swooped him up and carefully whisked him out of the way before he ever saw me. (His Mom was pretty impressed.)
