“don’t get on her bad side”
Skater name: Polly Gone
Skater number: >2
Position: your blind side
Year you started playing for TXRG: 2012
Birthday: 10•13
Occupation? I am a graduate student of Landscape Architecture at UT.
What is your most impressive derby injury? Not getting injured.
What’s your most embarrassing derby moment? I dunno, but this one time, Punchy O’Guts hit a jammer, and she flew past the crowd, out the fire exit door and fell down outside. At least that’s how I remember it. That must have been embarrassing.
How did you get into derby? As a birthday present, my best friend rented me skates (those tan ones with the red wheels) and signed me up for tryouts. I’d never seen or heard of derby before. I showed up at the warehouse in Astoria and was like, wtf is this? I’m going to tear this shit apart.
Why did you pick your derby name? It represents a faceted approach to achievement, and reminds me to test new ideas. A polygon brags about my multi-sided aptitude for the sport and provides an open framework in which I can shape-shift relative to my current personal strengths as well as the needs of a particular moment, teammate, lineup, team, bout, and season.
How has roller derby impacted your life? At about 150lbs/second, ten or so times a week.
What’s the hardest part of being a rollergirl? Explaining the rules to friends and family.
You play several positions, which one is your favorite & why? If I don’t feel like thinking, I like to jam. Otherwise, I like to block.
