Who is your favorite band/musician/group? I loves me some Coheed and Cambria, but MJ always tops my charts. And if you wanna make me happy on the track or at the after party, play Salt N Pepa’s “Push It”.
What is your most impressive derby injury? No injury is anything to brag about and I’m lucky to say that I’ve only had to survive minor knee owies and broken toes.
What is your drink of choice at your favorite bar? Water! (and maybe a rum and coke if there’s one handy)
Hobbies? Playing Scrabble, boot scootin’, piggy-back ride racing, eating good queso with April, using exclamation points!
What’s your most embarrassing derby moment? I’ve built a bad habit of skating derby practices in jeans. When I was a younger derby-er, I wasn’t so wise about stretch denim and I’ve had a few mishaps…and of course there happened to be media at those practices (it’s documented on film).
When did you start skating? OR How did you get into derby? I started skating in 2005 with the Alamo City Rollergirls. FeBe saw a flyer on campus and we did some research online and knew we needed to be involved in the progression of the sport. The only small barrier was that we couldn’t skate. The first six months were rough and I spent more time on the floor than I did on my skates. Everything didn’t officially click until my first season in Austin with Trouble as our coach.
Favorite food? Cupcakes, chocolates and cheese (and I’m not even talking the fancy stuff)! You can usually also find me munching on some Doritos before a bout.
Favorite roller derby player? Most of my faves came from my first year involved in the derby community when I travelled all over with Tonya Hurting, Ziv Krueger and Blue Mayhem learning what derby was and different strategies and all that jazz. There are way too many to name.
What’s the hardest part of being a rollergirl? Making sure all of the items are together for my boutfit. Now, I’m definitely not the most fashionable rollergirl (*cough* Stardust, Acute *cough*), but if something’s missing, it really does affect my comfort level on the track and I become a mess real quick.
First thing you do after a derby bout: I usually skate by to thank the fans for coming and answer questions, then start cleaning up! We’re DIY and the venue isn’t self-cleaning.
Would you like to brag about your skates? No. “Are those spurs on your skates?” -Haus The Boss
You play several positions, which one is your favorite & why? I like playing the front and middle of the pack with FeBe. We don’t always get along off the track, but we always know what the other’s gonna do when we strap on our skates.
What’s your favorite moment with derby people? Skiing with Crash N Burnadette, Shay Manyu, Tonya Hurting, Ziv and Saba Taj at Dust Devil 2006 in Tucson!
